Charcuterie boards seem to be all the rage these days. But what exactly are they? "Charcuterie" is a French word that generally refers to the branch of cooking concerned with prepared meats. The traditional charcuterie has evolved to include meats, cheeses, specialty breads and herb-seasoned spreads. Easy to customize and fun to prepare, charcuterie boards have become a popular party platter favorite.

More than just a trend, these boards can help you to meet your daily nutrient needs. Diets high in a variety of fruits, vegetables, and a variety of other nutrient-rich foods are often fortified with vitamins and minerals that aid in disease prevention. Charcuterie boards are customizable so they can cater to kids and dinner party guests alike. For holidays, they can be tailored to a them. They can make fruits and vegetables that would otherwise seem boring more exciting. They are perfect for setting out snacks while the main meal is still cooking, and they are easily restock-able with pantry staples like crackers, raisins, and more. These boards are a perfect way to spice up your routine snacks. Don't be afraid to experiment a little bit to see what you come up with!

The following charts (based on this video) will show you how to get started. Before no time, you'll have a fantastic charcuterie board using these four easy steps.
